Home Owner Builder Course

From 1st October 2010 it is a requirement that all owner builders complete a compliant Course delivered through a Registered Training Organisation when the value of the proposed work is in excess of $12,000.

Rapid Training Solutions are approved by VETAB and the Department Of Fair Trading to deliver the course 91509NSW Course in Owner Builder Compliance this course complies with the new legislation.

We offer this course in 2 formats:

Home Based Learning Course (On Line)

Blended Delivery Course, 3 Evenings.

Our 3 evening course is held over 3 consecutive Monday evenings from 5.00pm to 9.30pm and is structured for those with a busy lifestyle who cannot afford to take days off whilst studying. This course is designed for those potential Owner Builders who like their learning as a "hands on" experience, and in particular those new to the Industry.

The evening course will cover all the aspects of the course and you will be able to take home some study work which needs to be completed before the following Monday. This would be approx 2 hours work.


Dates for the Evening Blended Delivery Course are as follows;


Monday 27th June, 4th July and 11th July

Monday 8th August, 15th August and 22nd August

Monday 19th September, 26th September and 4th October

Please note:
It is a pre-requisite of this course that each student must first complete the unit “Work Safely In the Construction Industry” CPCCOHS1001, commonly known as a White Card. It is a NSW Workcover requirement that this part of the course is delivered face to face.


Our course introduces the participant to the multitude of obligations of being an Owner Builder. It will also provide the participant an insight into:

• The compliance obligations relating to building, renovating and refurbishing a home.
• The supervisory and management issues relating to managing a building site.
• Their responsibility to occupational health and safety during the construction process.
• Their ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
• The essential financial aspects relating to estimating, cash flow and job costing.
• The critical areas of contracts and contract management with suppliers and contractors.
• How important effective communication is to the project.

The Owner Builder course is compiled into 5 modules

• CPCCOHS2001A – OH&S Requirements, Policies & Procedures in the Construction Industry
• CPCCCM2001A – Read & Interpret Plans & Specifications
• CPCCCM1001A – Undertake Basic Estimating & Costing
• OBPERNSW002 – Administer Contracts
• CPCCCM1003A – Plan & Organise Work
• CPCCCM1004A – Conduct Workplace Communication



Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Recognition of prior learning is available for this course
For RPL to be granted the course participant must provide evidence that they:
Have attained the competencies described in the unit(s) of competency that are being claimed.
Possess current competency in the unit(s) of competency that are being claimed.
Possess the required underpinning knowledge specified in the relevant unit(s) of competency.
Have applied the relevant competencies in the residential building industry.



Regulations

The participant’s literacy skills will need to be at the level of competence required by a Year 10 student which will form the basis of their learning.  Many people are in a situation where English is not their first language, or they left school early, or have been in a career which has not provided much experience with written communication.

Literacy support can simply be factored into the training and assessment if needed. It is the responsibility of the trainer and assessor to support all participants with LLN as part of their obligations under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF).

Rapid Training Solutions is a family owned and run business, Chris is the Director and head trainer for the Company, Chris has been in the building industry for 41 years starting out as an apprentice carpenter then ,moving on to get his builders licence in 1978 and has maintained that licence through to today by being involved in projects from backyard decks to multi million dollar construction projects, Chris’s experience covers the whole range of commercial and domestic construction. Chris has decided it is time to put some of that knowledge back into the industry with his Registered Training Organisation.

Chris is joined by two of his sons that completed their apprenticeships under the ever watchful eye of their father, Both Stephen and Bob have had over 12 years experience each as carpenters, foreman and project managers from large scale commercial projects to working out the fine detail required by some of the Countries best Architects.
